Videos, videos everywhere! Check out our work!

Greetings all! I know it's been a little while since we've updated you on our latest video projects... so here goes!

Dr. Mike Mayhew and Dr. Nicole Scheffler have a terrific practice in the beautiful mountain town of Boone, NC. In addition to producing some awesome new ortho videos for them, we also produced a couple of special videos to highlight the pediatric dentistry side of their practice. Check it all out here: http://www.opsmiles.com/.

We first met Drs. Barbara Hershey and Gavin Heymann at the AAO in Washington, DC earlier this year. We shot custom videos at their offices in Durham and Chapel Hill, NC in August, and the videos are now live on their website! http://www.hersheyheymann.com/.

Dr. Roxanne Robertson has an amazing office in lovely Corpus Christi, TX, and now she has a couple of fantastic custom-produced OrthoMedia videos on her new website as well! http://www.starbraces.com/.

And we've got a handful of other projects in the final stages of editing as well, so stay tuned! As always you can see more examples of projects we've done at our website: http://www.ortho-media.com/ and click on the "view our work" link. Let us know what you think!

Super Wi-Fi is coming. And it WILL affect you!

Remember the days before WiFi? When you actually HAD to have a cable connected to your computer to surf the internet? It wasn't that long ago... but funny how antiquated that notion already seems.

WiFi has revolutionized the way we surf the web. On our computers, laptops, smartphones, tablets, etc. How great is it that you can walk into any coffee shop, plop down in a chair with a cup of joe and surf the web wirelessly. Or sit in front of the TV at home and surf wirelessly on your couch while you watch your favorite show? Awesome stuff.

Only problem is (since we so quickly discover how liberating - and limiting - any new technology can be) WiFi can be unreliable at times. Connection speeds can vary, and we all know that the farther across the house (or the coffee shop) you get from the router, the worse the signal gets. At our place, the router is in the room we call the "office," where the signal is fantastic. But if we try to surf while watching TV over in the guest room - where the signal has to travel through a number of walls - the experience isn't so great. Ever walked around your house with your laptop in hand, refreshing the wireless signal to try to find the best spot? Yeah.

Now comes a long anticipated announcement from the Federal Communications this past week. "Super WiFi" is coming. And yes, it will change your life. I promise.

Can't get a good signal from your home router from more than 50 feet away? When super wifi makes it down to the comsumer level, you won't be judging your signal's reach by mere feet, my friends. We're talking potentially miles of signal.

And connection speeds? Get this: the best any connection can move over current wifi standards is about 54 Mbps. Well in addition to expanded signal reach, super wifi promises to deliver speeds of anywhere from 80 to 800 Mbps! ZZZZOOOOOMMM!! Far out, huh?

So how is this happening? Where is this coming from? Well, think of super-wifi as being similar to an over-the-air TV signal. In fact, they both exist in what's called the "wireless spectrum." And when the government mandated that TV stations switch from broadcasting analog signals to broadcasting digital signals in recent years, there was a LOT of leftover room in the wireless spectrum as a result -because digital signals take up far less space in the spectrum than analog signals. They call this leftover space "white space". And with the FCC's new ruling, it opens the door to technology companies to build and sell products that effectively broadcast your internet signal over the air, much like a TV signal, through that leftover white space - through buildings and walls - to your laptop or wireless device, at amazing speeds and strength. That, of course, means a faster and more accessible internet for us all.

When will super-wifi be broadcasting in your neighborhood (or from your house)? Not today or tomorrow, but a lot sooner than you think. There are billions of dollars to be made here, and you can bet there will be companies country-wide clamoring to be the first to offer it to you. I heard someone say the other day that in five years, "super-fast, super strong wireless internet will be as easy to access as a cell phone signal."

In our eyes, of course, it means stuff like crystal-clear HD video content will be far easier to obtain in far more places for a far greater number of people. And guaranteed you'll be seeing website developers moving to provide more and more of that powerful content. Don't have a video-rich website yet? In a few short years it will be the standard.

Give us a shout today and let's talk about bringing your practice into the internet video revolution, before everyone else gets into the game. It's an exciting time, y'all! Let us help you lead the way in your community!

Until next time...
