USA Today: Video a must for business in 2012

Happy new year everyone! Hope your holiday was safe and enjoyable!

With the “silly season” (as a former boss of mine used to call it) behind us, it’s time to start thinking seriously about marketing your practice in 2012. And yes, I’m here to tell you that video should absolutely be a key component of your marketing this year.

We’ve criss-crossed the country the last couple of years shooting custom videos for orthodontic practices, and made scores of believers out of those who have seen for themselves how powerful and effective video can be.

“Best advertising money I’ve spent, period,” said Dr. Doug Singleton, an orthodontist in Marietta, GA, and an OrthoMedia client. “ People feel like they know me when they get here. It has presold numerous cases and puts you in a different class than your competitors.”

Still, many of you are leery of incorporating video into your marketing efforts, for a variety of reasons. But here’s another big reason to take another serious look at video: when asked to list the top five small business trends for 2012, Steve Strauss – business expert and columnist for USA Today – listed internet video as one of those things that will shape successful businesses in the coming year. If you run a small business, “You need to strongly consider adding video to the mix,” he writes. Read the full article by clicking here:

Then there’s this: VatorTech, a online magazine focusing on emerging tech trends, says: “While advertising, in general, is expected to increase 20% to $31 billion in 2012, according to eMarketer, online video is expected to grow more than twice as fast, or 52%.”

And this: YouTube's Robert Kyncl, took the stage last week at CES 2012 and made some big, bold claims that ought to get any video marketer's engine running. Chief among them, that very soon 90% of all web traffic will be video.

The bottom line is this: everyone in the know agrees that internet video is the next big thing. And I feel safe to say that’s not an exaggeration. Experts universally predict that internet video is what will define the next decade (at least) in terms of not only marketing, but in almost every aspect of our lives as a media-and-information driven society. And those who refuse to embrace this fact run the enormous risk of being left behind in the dust and forgotten.

When talking about this very subject not long ago, an orthodontist friend of ours offered his opinion: “We orthodontists tend to drag our feet on these type things,” he said. “It was much like when websites first came on the scene, and a lot of people just looked at them as novelties, as a fad with no real business value. Now most everyone has a website and realizes how important they are.”

Don’t drag your feet. Don’t think internet video is a fad that will pass in six months. Take the plunge into internet video today, and lay the foundation for a next-level marketing plan that can serve you for years to come. And when you’re ready to talk, give us a call and let us show you how it’s done!

Until next time,

~ Dusty
